Time For Arsene To Sign On

These are uncertain times at Arsenal and there is only one person who can steady the unstable ship...

He is an unquestionably shrewd man so it seems strange that he won't do more to calm the players', the board and the fans' nerves.

Maybe he is more cunning than we think and he is using the summer rumour rigmarole to get what he wants from the board?

Maybe he is pushing the board to accept the interest from Kroenke?

Maybe he is manipulating things so he can get David Dein back on board?

Maybe he is holding out for a huge pay rise and contract extension?

Neither would be a bad thing, but whilst he refuses to publically comment about his future beyond his current contract everyone who cares about Arsenal will be unsettled.

Anyone would be impressed by the romantic European history of a club like Real Madrid but he is intelligent enough to realise that Real have had five different managers in five years. But it is too unstable a prospect and there is no other club in Europe that would give him the opportunity to design his own training ground, stadium and basically be his own boss.

Whilst he refuses to comment on his long term future, potential targets will be less likely to sign on the dotted line and his current players will feel their long term development to be undermined and unstable.

The future of Wenger's next great team is in his hands and if he plans to stay at the club beyond his current contract he should re-sign now. He owes it to the board, his players and the fans to set a solid foundation for the future of the club. It's time for Wenger to show everyone that he really does believe in the world beating potential of his young team.
